Not as much of a boycott of EA but rather because by 2008 EA had eaten most of the studios that made good games under them. Will Wright should have quit EA back in 2005, then go to a smaller developer and then made Spore instead of proposing the idea to EA who could care less about the concept and game itself but rather how much money it will rake in. Patch 6Bot Parts does NOT include Patch 5.1 (Some may work on other setups, but this is recommended). Really I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't push Will Wright to announce Spore so early in 2005. Remember that all mods available here REQUIRE Spore: Galactic Adventures AND patch 5.1. The game then didn't do as great as EA hoped and Will Wright quit and EA ate the remains of the studio he left behind then dropped support for Spore and started crapping out those action-RPG's that carry the Spore name. After much back and forth between Maxis and EA, which resulted in stalling of development, EA won and the half assed game was released. It just takes work and encouragement from the fans. Now with the new Spore modding tools out, I believe modders can add stages to the game. When the veil opens up, you run the risk of dropping spores onto the. That mod changes the creature stage into the Aquatic stage. To put it short, EA and Maxis studio conflicted over what should and shouldn't be in and when the game should be released. Mastering this stage is fairly simple, but crucial if you want to reap the rewards. EA at the time of Spore's development was quickly in the process of gaining the reputation we know and hate it for today. As hyped as I was for the game I had a gut feeling something like that would probably happen. Spore is basically what killed and broke up Maxis studios and had Will Wright leave EA.
